Afghan refugee attacks passengers on German train
Tuesday, July 19th, 2016 1:04:44 by fatimaarshadA 17-year-old Afghan refugee attacked fellow passengers with a knife and axe, on a train in Germany. The incident took place on Monday evening in the southern German city of Ochsenfurt when the teenager just produced the weapons from his bag and started attacking the people around him. Due to the attack several people got wounded.
After attacking the people, the teenager fled from the train but the police were quick to respond and confronted him. He eventually got shot and killed by the police when he tried to run away instead of giving himself in to authorities.
The Interior Minister for the state of Bavaria, Joachim Herrmann said that it was too early to speculate about the motive of the attacker, adding that religious fanaticism can also not be blamed at this time. A media reporter said that the attacker shouted ‘Allah-o-Akbar’ before lashing out at the people but these reports were not confirmed by anyone else.
According to the reports provided so far, the attacker was believed to have been living in a home for unaccompanied minors in Ochensfurt near the city of Wuerzburg. He had apparently come from Afganistan as a refugee and his parents could not be traced.
This particular attack comes just days after Tunisian Muslim ran his 19-tonne truck into crowds of Bastille Day revelers in the southern French city of Nice, killing 84 people and injuring scores of others. Such attacks are deepening worries about the ‘lone wolf’ attacks in Europe which have increased since the time thousands of refugees from war-torn countries have been allowed in these European countries.
