There has been a small movement going on in the major cities of Pakistan, in which a political party is asking the Army Chief of Pakistan, General Raheel Sharif, to take over the rule of the country. The political party behind this movement is called Move On Pakistan and its chairman Mian Kamran was arrested on Wednesday from Islamabad.

Kamran has been charged with spreading anarchy and defaming the institution of Army. Over the past few weeks, posters with pictures of General Raheel Sharif in uniform were seen in different parts of the country. The message in all these posters was the same-that the General should not retire in the coming year, instead he should even take over the politics of this country after trampling over democracy.

Thousands of banners, asking for an army coup have been seen in different cities including; Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Hyderabad. Initially it was not clear who was behind this movement and some people even thought that the army itself is spreading this message, but it was later found out that a small political party is heading it.

The Move On Pakistan party is even registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan, but till now, the party was never seen on the political landscape of the country.

According to the details provided, the banners asking for an army coup started appearing all over the country after the visit of Chairman US Senate’s Armed Services Committee, Senator John McCain to Pakistan. During his visit, he had praised the Army Chief for his leadership skills and had expressed his hope that the general would continue to lead Pakistan.

These banners were criticized by all political parties and Army’s media wing, ISPR, had also clarified that the Army had no connection with these banners or the party.
