Muslim women beaten in Indian for suspicions of carrying cow meat
Thursday, July 28th, 2016 2:26:49 by fatimaarshadTwo Muslim women were beaten up badly by a group of people at a railway station in the state of Madhya Pradesh for suspicions of carrying beef. In the Hindu majority country of India, it is considered an offence to carry or eat cow meat as the animal is considered sacred in Hindu religion.
TV footage of the incident shows a group of women slapping, kicking and punching the two Muslim women as a large crowd gathered around them. None of the people in the crowd appears to be showing any inclination to help the women as they watch on.
The two women were arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police on charges of carrying beef. It was later found out that the women were carrying buffalo meat and not cow meat but no one actually waited to find out the facts first. The women have now been charged with carrying commercial quantities of meat without license, which is also considered an offense.
“We had prior information and had deputed force to arrest them but unfortunately some people attacked them,” said Manoj Sharma, district police chief of Mandsaur where the incident occurred.
In most Indian states, it is illegal to slaughter cows as the animal is revered by Hindus. A number of states also bar the sale and possession of beef. In recent times, there has been an increase in attacks by the vigilantes against the Muslims for suspected killing of cows.
It has been reported that none of the people involved in lynching the women have been arrested for the assault.
