British woman caged by her Saudi father for improper behavior

A 21-year-old dual national British woman has been held in a cage by her Saudi father in Jeddah for years, reportedly for living a lifestyle which was disapproved by her father.
Swansea-born Amina Al-Jeffery was living a normal life in Britain which included having boyfriends and wearing revealing clothes. However, this did not sit well with her father and he took her from her house in Wales and brought her back to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
As a form of disciplining Amina, her father kept her in a cage and at times her treatment violated the basic human rights. Amina’s case has been brought to the High Court and now efforts are being made to bring her back to Wales where she belongs.
According to reports, Jeffery is kept caged when her father leaves home. She had spoken of being “prevented from going to the bathroom” and being “forced to urinate in a cup.”
A lawyer familiar with the case said, “(She) comments… her treatment has extended to depriving her of food and water, depriving her of toilet facilities, physical assault and control of her ability to marry who she wishes and creating a situation in which she feels compelled to marry as a means of escape.”
Meanwhile her father believes that he has ‘a duty to control Amina’ due to which he has taken such extreme measures. Al-Jeffery’s thinking is even evident in a letter which he wrote earlier this year, explaining his stance on the situation.
In the letter Al-Jeffery wrote that the reason he does not return Amina to Wales is because she might revert to her ‘destructive ways’. He further adds; “As her father, I fear for her health and safety and only want what is best for Amina, so she may focus on her education.”
Hearings are still going on and the decision of the case will be released very soon.
