Samia Shahid murder case: Former husband holds criminal record
Monday, August 1st, 2016 2:40:58 by fatimaarshadInvestigations into Samia Shahid’s murder case have led to some discoveries into her family’s dubious past. Samia, a British national of Pakistani origin, was reported dead by her father last week. Initially, it was reported by her father, Muhammad Shahid, that Samia had died due to a cardiac arrest. However, Samia’s husband, Muhammad Kazam launched an FIR against the family claiming that they had killed his wife in the name of honor.
Since then, investigations are being carried out into the case, and it has been learnt that Samia’s former husband and cousin, Chaudhary Shakil, also possesses a criminal record. Some locals of Pandoori, where the incident took place, told reporters on condition of anonymity that Shakil had faced an 18-month sentence on charges of firing and injuring Gul Zaman, a resident of Dhok Sahi near Pandoori. Apparently a brawl had broken out between the two over a and dispute and Shakil ended up shooting Zaman and injuring him. This claim of the locals was confirmed by Mangla SHO Aqeel Abbas.
The locals also reported another incident linked to the family saying that Samia’s aunt was also found dead under similar circumstances nearly 25 years ago. She had wanted a divorce from her husband which her family did not accept.
Later, Samia’s aunt was found dead in her paternal home and her brother, Samia’a father, Muhammad Shahid and other family members had claimed that she committed suicide. No one contested that claim and it was never reported to the police.
An autopsy on Samia’s exhumed body showed bruises on her neck, hinting towards possible strangulation. However, an official report of the autopsy will be revealed in a week’s time.
