Samia Shahid murder case: UK police ‘might’ help Pakistan if asked for assistance

Samia Shahid’s murder case is gaining momentum as forensic reports, which have recently been released, show that the British national of Pakistani origin, was suffocated to death and did not die of natural causes.
The West Yorkshire Police said on Wednesday that Pakistani authorities have not yet contacted the police in London with regards to the murder investigation of Bradford-born British Pakistani girl Samia Shahid, but a request to assist in the investigations will be ‘carefully considered’.
A local news channel contacted a spokesman for the West Yorkshire Police who confirmed that Samia Shahid’s mother and sister are in Bradford now. According to the details provided, the mother and daughter flew back to Bradford soon after investigations started in Pakistan.
The police spokesman said: “We believe they are both in the UK, but this is a Pakistan Police investigation and all enquiries are being directed by the investigating force.”
He added that the West Yorkshire Police was “continuing to liaise with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office regarding their investigation”.
The news reporter even asked whether Samia had ever contacted the police sharing concerns over her life’s safety, to which the officer said that no such concerns were ever brought to the police. He did mention however, that Samia had been reported missing by her family after she flew to Dubai with her second husband in May 2015.
Samia Shahid’s husband Syed Mukhtar Kazam was the one who first lodged an FIR against her family, claiming that she had been killed for honor because she defied her family’s wishes and married him.
Investigations are still going on in the case and so far, her father and first husband, Muhammad Shakeel, are the prime suspects in the case.
