The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif called up the Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday and requested for the safe recovery of the kidnapped crew which was aboard the helicopter that crashed in Afghanistan.

According to the details provided, the helicopter was on its way to Russia via Uzbekistan when something went wrong and the helicopter had to make a crash landing at Afghanistan’s Logar province. Unfortunately, the area belonged to Taliban who captured the seven crew members who were on-board and set the helicopter on fire.

Initially it was reported that the helicopter belonged to the Pakistan Army, but it was later found out that the helicopter was from the Punjab government and there were retired personnel on-board along with a Russian navigator.

According to the latest developments, all efforts are being made to ensure that the captured crew members are returned home safely.

“The COAS called Afghan President Ashraf Ghani today and asked him to help in the safe and early recovery of the crew members of the Punjab government,” the DG ISPR said.

President Ghani has assured Pakistan that all efforts will be made to retrieve the crew members from the Taliban.

The Army chief on Thursday night also called Commander Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan General Nicolson and asked him to help in the recovery of the helicopter crew. General Nicholson assured Gen Raheel of all possible help in the matter.
