Tuesday, August 9th, 2016 9:00:59 by fatimaarshadFear marks the residents of Rawalpindi as an unidentified group of men are spreading terror in the city by attacking women after dark. So far, 32 women have been targeted by this mysterious group which still remains at large.
The attacks started taking place in February this year but there was relative calm for a period of four months, after which the attacks have started again.
All of the attacks have taken place in the vicinity of Morgah police station and the police are trying their best to catch the perpetrators. Most of the attacks have taken place at areas called Kot Kalian and Rabia Bungalows.
The latest attacks took place on Sunday evening, when the attackers stabbed a nurse to death and injured two other women on the same day. The nurse used to work at the Fauji Foundation Hospital and she succumbed to her injuries soon after she was attacked.
The attackers have wounded several women around the same area and the police are on a lookout for them since then. When the attacks started in February, the police arrested three men. However, it is not clear whether the attacks are being carried out by the same group or not.
SHO Morgah police station, Malik Kausar told reporters that policemen clad in civil clothes are patrolling the area, so that the culprits can be caught red-handed.
One victim, named Salma, said her family no longer lets her go outside. “I can’t go to work anymore. These attackers can stab any woman in the stomach, legs, or anywhere.”
Another resident, Mrs Khursheed, said: “These attacks are only increasing with time here. Women going anywhere alone are attacked with a dagger. Some were even stabbed thrice. We need the government to protect us.”
Rawalpindi residents have appealed to Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to take notice of this incident and bring the attackers to justice.
