Trump comes under fire for suggesting that Clinton could be shot
Wednesday, August 10th, 2016 3:13:49 by fatimaarshadUS presidential candidate Donald Trump can come under fire once again for his controversial remarks against his opponent, Hillary Clinton. Even though the message was not immediately clear, but lawmakers, former national security officials and other critics have interpreted it as a threat of violence against Clinton.
This incident took place on Tuesday, when Trump was addressing the people during a rally. Initially he started off with his usual tirade against Clinton and how her policies will only lead the nation in trouble, however, after a short while, he referred to the Second Amendment, and that is when he made his controversial remarks.
“Hillary wants to essentially abolish the Second Amendment,” Trump told a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, referring to the US Constitution’s clause that enshrines the right to bear arms.
“If she gets to pick her judges, nothing you can do, folks,” Trump said. “Although the Second Amendment people — maybe there is, I don’t know.”
These remarks were not taken lightly and a huge outcry was created by Clinton’s camps and Republicans alike.
Clinton’s camp disparaged Trump’s message as ‘dangerous’ and demanded in a statement that presidential candidates should not ‘suggest violence in any way’.
“In this clip, Trump’s either calling for an armed revolt or the assassination of his opponent. Despicable,” Democratic congressman David Cicilline posted on Twitter along with footage of Trump’s remarks.
Even his fellow Republicans have criticized Trump for suggesting violence against his opponent.
Influential Republican US Senator Susan Collins piled on, saying the nominee was “unworthy” of America’s highest elective office and would not receive her support.
“I have become increasingly dismayed by his constant stream of cruel comments and his inability to admit error or apologize,” Collins wrote in a Washington Post op-ed.
Meanwhile Trump’s camp has justified these words by saying that by saying what he did, Trump just meant that people who support the Second Amendment should come out and vote in his favor so that Clinton can be defeated in the elections.
