Pemra imposes a 45-days ban on Dr. Shahid Masood’s show
Friday, August 12th, 2016 3:13:01 by fatimaarshadThe Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) slapped a 45-days ban on ARY News Channel’s show Live with Dr Shahid Masood. The decision was taken because apparently, the host of the show, Dr. Shahid Masood had accused the Sindh High Court Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah for taking a bribe.
The decision was taken on Thursday for slinging accusations on such an important person of the law. According to a statement released by Pemra through it’s Twitter account, Dr. Shahid Masood had made these accusations during the transmission of his show on June 22. “In his programme, he also alluded that the son of the Chief Justice had been kidnapped because the Chief Justice did not fulfill his promise after receiving money,” the statement released on Twitter said.
During his program, Dr. Masood went on to say that the alleged deal between the Chief Justice and his bribers, whose identity was not released, was struck in a Gulf State.
Further continuing his account, Dr. Masood said that the reason Justice Shah’s son, Awais Ali Shah’s son was kidnapped from Karachi, was that the CJ did not honor his part of the deal with the bribers. Awais Ali Shah was kidnapped in July and later recovered during an Intelligence based operation near Tank in Khyber Pakhtunkhua.
The media watchdog had issued a show-cause notice to ARY News, giving the channel seven days to respond. However, after receiving an unprofessional reply, Pemra referred the case to an independent body called Council of Complaints.
After failing to satisfy the council, the decision to ban has been imposed on the show, but the channel still has the right to appeal the decision to the High Court or Supreme Court, which will be enforced from August 15.
