Police arrest female gang behind abduction and selling of newborn babies
Friday, August 12th, 2016 5:50:46 by fatimaarshadThe Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police arrested a gang of five women on Friday who were allegedly involved in the kidnapping and sale of newborn babies.
According to the details provided of this incident, these women would go around in different hospitals and maternity homes across Peshawar and act as the staff there, all the while being involved in their heinous activities.
“The gang consisted of female doctors and nurses working in various government hospitals,” an official statement released by the police read.
The statement further elaborated that the police were able to recover one newborn baby safely but the gang had already sold off nine newborns.
Due to the recent surge in newborn kidnappings in Peshawar, SSP Operations Abbas Majeed Khan Marawat had formed a team led by SP Cantt Kashif Zulfiqar to lead this search operation and bust the gang.
“Following the orders of SP Zulfiqar, based on a tip-off, SHO East Inspector Malik Habib arrested a woman identified as Wajeeha Yasmee alias Jia,” the statement added.
“During interrogation, Jia confessed that she has made a deal with Nadir Shah to deliver him a baby for Rs300,000. Until the deal is through, the child has been handed over to a woman named Musarrat to take care of.”
These women had access the operation theaters and labor rooms of the hospital, from where they would kidnap the newborn and in their place, deliver a dead baby to unsuspecting parents.
The arrested women were able to reveal names of other gang members who helped them in this scam.
