According to police sources, the sketch which was released of the suspect helped them in arresting him. The sketch had been made in consultation with the victims of the attacker.
The attacks took place around an area called Morgah and created widespread terror in the city. The attacks started taking place in February and till date, 32 women had been stabbed by the attacker and his accomplices. Out of the 32 women, one died while being unable to bear her injuries.
The suspect will be shown to some of the victims who will verify whether he is the real attacker. According to the details provided by the police, the attacker belongs to a nearby town of Kahuta, and he is said to be mentally deranged.
Before his arrest, the police rounded up a number of people suspected to be a part of these knife-wielding attacks. Some of these people helped the attacker by carrying out their own attacks against women in the city.
Four main suspects who were captured by the police are identified as; Siraj, Asad Ahmed, Afsar Masih and Ilyas. Out of these four, two have already served prison sentences at Adiala Jail.
Upon interrogation it was found out that these men carried out the attacks after being inspired by some movies and did it ‘for fun’, in order to spread terror in the vicinity.
The five men will be presented before a court for remand, police sources said.
