Monday, August 15th, 2016 3:10:18 by fatimaarshadA couple was arrested on Monday from Peshawar for allegedly selling their newborn baby girl to a gang who is involved in child trafficking.
According to the details provided by the police, the couple was busted after one of the members of the trafficking ring got arrested and sold out her other partners in crime.
Last week, police raided an area in Peshawar where the couple lived after details provided by Wajeeha, a prime suspect in the kidnapping ring which was busted last week. Imtiaz and his wife were captured from the Pabbi area in Nowshera after it became clear that they had sold-off their newborn baby girl for money.
Investigation Officer (IO) Inspector Lalzada told reporters that Wajiha had revealed that the couple had sold their baby to the gang for Rs 100,000.
However, when Imtiaz was investigated, he denied all charges and instead gave his own account of what actually happened. According to Imtiaz, they are very poor so when his wife gave birth to a baby girl, he gave the baby to a doctor who promised them that she would take care of the child and put her in school.
Imtiaz said that Wajiha had pretended to be a doctor and gave them false hopes due to which he handed over his baby girl to her. He said that despite their refusing money, Wajiha gave them Rs 70,000 in return.
The couple will be presented before a court where they will be charged for their crimes.
Last week, a professional gang of men and women involved in stealing newborn babies from hospitals, were arrested from Peshawar. Police have all the members of the gang in their custody and they are conducting investigations to uncover more people involved in this crime.
