Samia Shahid’s ex-husband confesses killing her

Samia Shahid’s murder case has finally been resolved as the suspect has come forward with his confession. The British-Pakistani’s first husband, Muhammad Shakeel has confessed to killing her while she was visiting her family in Pakistan.

According to the details provided, Shakeel made his confession while he was presented in a court along with the victim’s father, Muhammad Shahid. Shakeel told the court that he had strangled Samia with her own dupatta until she died.

“Shahid’s ex-husband, Muhammad Shakeel, who was on pre-arrest bail, was arrested along with Shahid’s father, Muhammad Shahid, after a local court did not extend Shakeel’s bail,” said Aqeel Abbas, a local police official.

Abbas also told reporters that both the men will remain in police custody for four days in Jehlum, after which they will have to face the charges against them.

Samia was previously married to Shakeel, who also happens to be her cousin, against her wishes. She later divorced him and married a man of her own choice named Muhammad Mukhtar Kazam and moved to Dubai.

It was Mukhtar who had first contacted the police and shared his suspicions regarding his wife’s death and that she was probably killed by her own family for honor’s sake. Later, post-mortem report confirmed Kazam’s fears as there were injury marks around Samia’s neck and it was determined that she had died due to asphyxiation.

Samia’s case got international attention due to her dual nationality and the investigation officers had been instructed to do their best to solve the murder mystery.
