Man kills wife in Karachi to preserve family honor

A 35-year-old mother of three children was stabbed to death by her husband in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Apparently, the act was committed because she had threatened to leave her husband and he killed her to preserve the family’s honor.

It has been found out that this was not the first murder committed by Rahim Daad, who killed his wife Farzana. The suspect had also killed his first wife around 14 years back for the very same reason.

The incident took place on the ground floor of a house located in the Metroville area of SITE, at around 2 AM on Wednesday morning. Rahim Daad lived in a rented portion of a house in which the landlord lived on the first floor. At around 2 AM, the landlord reported hearing a woman’s cries coming from downstairs, so he called up Rescue-15 and asked them to arrive immediately.

When the police arrived at the crime scene, they found Farzana dead and they arrested Rahim Daad with the murder weapon. It was found out that Rahim Daad had first stabbed his wife in the stomach, after which he slit her throat and she bled to death.

Rahim Daad confessed to committing the crime and told his own account of what happened. He told the police officers that he saw his wife preparing to leave home at around 2 AM along with her things. She told him that she did not want to stay with him any longer. An argument ensued after which Rahim Daad killed his wife.

The police decided to add Section 311 to the FIR against the suspect besides Section 302 (murder) of Pakistan Penal Code in order to make the offence non-compoundable. It was also decided to make the state the complainant in the case so that Rahim Daad cannot be excused in exchange for blood money.
