Cases registered against Baloch leaders for supporting Modi’s comments
Monday, August 22nd, 2016 2:59:45 by fatimaarshadFive cases have been registered against three separatist Baloch laders for allegedly supporting Modi’s comments in his Indian Independence Day speech. These leaders identified as; Brahamdagh Bugti, Harbiyar Marri and Banuk Karima Baloch reportedly supported Modi’s comments in his speech in which he said that the people of Balochistan ‘thanked him’.
The five separate cases were booked under sections 120, 121, 123 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The sections refer to “concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonment”, “waging or attempting to wage war or abetting waging of war against Pakistan”, “concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war”, and “assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty”.
These cases were registered on the complaints of petitioners Munir Ahmed, Maulana Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Hussain, Ghulam Yaseen Jatak and Muhammad Rahim at five police stations in Balochistan’s Khuzdar area.
During his August 15 speech, Modi, in an effort to divert attention away from Kashmir, said that the people of Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir had ‘thanked him a lot in the past few days’.
These comments by Modi incited protest across different parts of Pakistan and especially Balochistan. One of the petitioners, Munir Ahmed, also calimed that the Baloch leaders named in the cases, had also asked the Indian Prime Minister to commit aggression against Pakistan.
Infuriated by Modi’s speech, the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sanaullah Zehri said that the Indian government “fully supports the ongoing insurgency in Balochistan”, and that something should be done about it.
