Indian politician mocked on social media for being carried through flood water
Monday, August 22nd, 2016 3:14:00 by fatimaarshadAn Indian politician is being widely ridiculed on social media sites for being carried through muddy waters in the state of Madhya Pradesh, on the shoulders of police officers. The politician happens to be the chief minister of the state, who was on a visit to flood affected areas.
The case made its way to the public after a picture capturing the entire incident was posted on Twitter and other social media sites. In the picture, the chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan is seen wearing crisp white trousers and white shoes and is seen with his arms wrapped around two officers while he is being carried across the muddy water.
The picture also made its way to the front of the newspapers, sparking ridicule all across the nation for the chief minister’s conceited behavior.
Twitter was flooded with comments relating to the incident with most of the users poking fun at the chief minister.
“Shame on #Shivrajsinghchouhan. So embarrassing #wetyourfeet my man,” Twitter user Jennifer Fernandes wrote.
“#Shivraj training Indian athletes for 400M Relay 2020 Olympics,” read another.
Meanwhile, there were others who took the matter really seriously and abused Chouhan of abusing his position-comparisons were also drawn to the high treatment of British officials during colonial times.
Chouhan himself posted pictures of his visit to the flood affected area, but for obvious reasons, he did not post the controversial picture. Meanwhile his office also denied releasing the picture which has caused waves across the nation.
Floods in India have claimed the lives of hundreds of people this year. In Madhya Pradesh alone, 15 people have been killed due to the floods while thousands remain displaced.
