Altaf Hussain takes a backseat as party control handed over to ‘Raabita Committee’
Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 12:18:05 by fatimaarshadMuttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain has handed over the controls and powers of the party to the ‘Raabita’ Coordination Committee in light of the recent events. In a statement released by the party chief from London, he said that he has handed over all the decision, reorganization and policy-making powers of the MQM to the Coordination Committee so that he can ‘focus on his health’.
A statement quoting the MQM supremo shared by Jalil on Twitter says “Keeping in view statements made by MQM leader Farooq Sattar and other MQM members, I hand over powers of reorganisation, policy making and decision making to the Raabita Committee.”
“I will continue to focus on improving my health in line with the Coordination Committee’s suggestions,” Hussain said.
Hussain also mentioned that he was under ‘acute stress’ due to recent ‘incidents’ and due to working on the party affairs day and night. In the statement, the party chief also apologized for hurting the sentiments of his country-men by raising anti-Pakistan speech on Sunday.
Towards the end of the statement, Hussain urged all his party workers to support the Coordination Committee so that MQM can focus on becoming a great party.
Altaf Hussain came under fire on Sunday for passing anti-Pakistan remarks in his address to the party workers. After the incident, MQM members were incited towards violence and they ended up thrashing a private news channel’s office.
A day after the incident Hussain apologized to the military establishment for his behavior but by that time he had already lost his credibility in the country.
