Bad weather conditions hamper search for missing American mountaineers
Monday, September 5th, 2016 11:36:17 by fatimaarshadThe search for the two missing American mountain climbers still continues but the bad weather conditions up in the mountains is making the process very difficult.
Two American climbers, identified as Kyle Dempster and Scott Adamson, went on a mission to summit Ogre-II range in Gilgit-Baltistan area but they went missing after a few days and are presumed to be dead.
According to the latest reports, the search for Dempster and Adamson has stalled for the time being as helicopters and on-foot search parties cannot go up the mountain due to the bad weather conditions.
On Saturday, Army helicopters flew for hours around the Ogre-II mountain range in search for the missing mountaineers but the mission failed.
Dempster, 33, and Adamson 34, were expert mountain climbers who went missing on August 22 while trying to summit the Ogre-II in the Karakoram Range. They were fully prepared for the summit and had planned on returning after five days. The duo also had a guide who is also missing.
Dempster and Adamson were last seen by their cook Abdul Ghafoor who saw the light from their headlights halfway on their route. After that day, no one has seen or heard of them. They were carrying a week’s worth of food and water.
In addition to the helicopter, a search party comprising of local high altitude porters also went around the mountain in search of the missing climbers on August 31, but even they came back without success.
In an effort to finance the search, mountaineers from around the world have donated $180,000 to fund the search operation and another $70,000 are needed for the cause.
