Father of NYC bombing suspect told FBI son had ‘changed’ after visit to Afghanistan, Pakistan
Friday, September 23rd, 2016 4:19:33 by fatimaarshadThe father of the man who has been charged with bomb explosions in New York and New Jersey last weekend, had apparently informed FBI officials back in 2014 about his son’s apparent radicalization.
According to the details provided, Mohammad Rahami, the father of the suspected bomber, Ahmad Khan Rahami told reporters that his son had gone to visit his home country Afghanistan and later Pakistan during a visit in 2013. After he came back, Rahami noticed that something in him had changed after that trip.
“I found a change in his personality. His mind was not the same. He had become bad and I don’t know what caused it but I informed the FBI about it,” he said.
When further probed, Rahami said that he could not clearly pinpoint what had changed in his son, but he said that it was so apparent that the entire family had noticed it. That is the reason he informed the FBI so that a forewarning of any bad incident could be given.
Rahami also mentioned that he was not aware whether his son had become part of any militant group there, he just said that his son’s personality had definitely changed.
Rahami said that despite talking to the FBI, the agency did nothing and eventually, his son committed an atrocious crime by targeting innocent people.
“I condemn the act of my son and I am sad over injuries caused to people,” he said, adding that he was cooperating fully with investigators.
Ahmad Khan Rahami tried to kill innocent people in New York by setting off a series of bomb blasts. He had been planning these attacks for months as he bought bomb components online and even set off a backyard blast.
He was shot and severely injured during his arrest and remains hospitalized.
