In its latest issue, the magazine did a surprising thing by featuring a Muslim woman wearing a hijab.
The women in question is an American journalist by the name of Noor Tagouri who appeared in Playboy magazine’s October issue which features men and women ‘who risked it all-even their lives-to do what they love.
Tahouri is featured in the edition because she defied the societal norms and appeared on a news channel as an anchor without doing away with her hijab. In the spread, the 22-year-old journalist is seen wearing a black leather jacket, jeans, sneakers and a hijab. Beneath her picture, she is described as a ‘badass activist’ in the magazine.
Tagouri is reporter for a video news network by the name of Newsy and her goal is to become the first ‘hijabi’ anchor on commercial US television. In the interview, she says that her struggles as a Muslim woman growing up in the United States have actually helped her move ahead in her career.
“I know what it’s like to have the narrative of our community be skewed and exploited in the media,” she told Playboy in the interview.
“I was like, ‘Hey, I know what it’s like to be misrepresented in the media. I won’t do that to you. I want to tell your story because it’s important and deserves justice.’”
While many people have applauded this move, there are others who have criticized Tagouri for associating with a magazine that promotes soft porn.
