Pakistani cinemas suspend the screening of Bollywood movies
Friday, September 30th, 2016 1:21:53 by fatimaarshadAmid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, the civil society of Pakistan is joining force with the military by boycotting the screening of Indian movies in cinemas.
The management of Lahore’s Super Cinema announced in a Facebook post that they will stop the screening of all Indian movies in their cinemas across the country, till the time the tense situation at the borders is diffused.
In a post by the management of Super Cinema, they urged other cinemas to follow suit so that they can express their solidarity with the soldiers who are guarding the borders and sacrificing their lives for the country.
The post also urged to stop the screening of Indian content on cable television and the sale of Indian CDs in outlets across the country.
Shortly after this post went up, two other major cinemas, Nueplex and Atrium cinemas in Karachi also decided to stop the screening of Indian movies on their screens.
“To express solidarity with the Armed Forces of Pakistan, the Management of Nueplex Cinemas has decided to stop the screening of Indian films with immediate effect. We will keep our patrons informed of further developments in this matter,” a post on Nueplex’s Facebook page read.
The two cinemas are currently running Pakistani films Janaan, Actor In Law, Maalik and Zindagi Kitni Haseen Hay and Hollywood releases, Sully, Storksand The Magnificent Seven. Super Cinema is also running Hollywood films,Howl and Deepwater Horizon.
The screening of Amitabh Bachan’s Pink has been halted in both the cinemas.
