Members of organ trafficking ring captured in Rawalpindi

A group of doctors and the staff of a private hospital have been captured by the police for illegally stealing organs from unsuspecting individuals. The organ trafficking ring was operating in the garrison city of Rawalpindi for the past few months and police busted the ring after getting intelligence reports on them.

According to the details provided, the police recovered 20 men and four women who were being detained illegally by the mafia. All the victims were locked up in one place and so far, it is not clear whether any of the victims’ organs had been removed.

The victims had been brought to Rawalpindi from different parts of Punjab on the pretext of finding better jobs and livelihood for them. The victims belonged to Faisalabad, Sheikhupura, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Gujranwala and Bahawalnagar.

The detained victims were being held in a building located in Bahria Town Phase VII for two weeks and their relatives did not even know that they had been captured.

So far the police have captured four suspects who were present in the building during the raid. These suspects have been identified as Faqeer Mohammad alias Faqeera, Shahzad Qayyum alias Shani, Zafar Iqbal and Bilquis. The police sought seven-day remand custody for the suspects but the court granted them a one-day remand only.

The police has also launched an investigation into the involvement of four doctors and the staff of a private hospital involved in this heinous crime.

The police will also investigate whether the organ traffickers has any connections to international organ trafficking rings.
