Shahbaz Taseer’s kidnapper killed in police encounter

The operation was conducted by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) after multiple intelligence reports were received regarding the militants’ whereabouts around that area.
According to the details provided by a CTD spokesperson, they had received intel reports that around nine to 10 members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group present in Sheikhupura and that they were planning an attack on the offices of the law enforcement agencies.
After receiving the reports, the police raided a house near Sheikhupura Bypass at 12:30 AM and found a group of alleged militants there. As soon as the militants saw the officials, they fled on a jeep and two motorcycles.
The officials followed them up to a branch road where the suspects opened fire and an encounter between both the parties ensued. Resultantly, six militants were killed and some of the militants managed to escape. A hunt is still on to find and apprehend them.
The CTD team also seized arms and ammunition, including three Kalashnikov rifles, three pistols, 2 KG of explosives, prima cords and a cache of bullets from the house where the militants were staying.
The bodies of the militants were sent for identification and one of the deceased has positively been identified as Shahbaz Taseer’s kidnapper, Haji Muhammad alias Pathan. Pathan’s name was included in one of the ‘most wanted criminals’ list and he had been declared a proclaimed offender in an FIR registered with the Gulberg police.
Shahbaz Taseer, son of late governor of Punjab, Salman Taseer, was kidnapped from Lahore in August 2011 by the Taliban and he was saved just a few months back.
