Indian army slams MNS’s decision of asking Indian producers employing Pakistani actors to pay handsome donation to Army funds
Monday, October 24th, 2016 1:21:54 by fatimaarshadThe Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) recently asked Indian film producers who employed Pakistani artistes in their productions, to pay INR50 million to Indian Army’s welfare fund, as an ‘atonement’ for their action.
This decision did not go well with the Army, which publicly slammed this move of the MNS.
“Don’t play politics with the army, which has a strong apolitical, highly-disciplined and secular ethos. The armed forces do not want to be dragged into such low-level political wrangling,” said a senior officer. “We only accept funds that are donated voluntarily, not through such coercion or extortion,” added another officer.
The officer further mentioned that an ‘Army Welfare Fund Battle Casualties’ fund had been set up by the Army recently after it was approached by a large number of philanthropic organizations and individuals who wanted to donate money after the Uri attack. These people wanted to help the relatives and next of kin of soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
“There was a surge of such requests after 10 soldiers perished in the massive avalanche in Siachen on February 3 as well as after the attack on the Uri camp on September 18 that left 19 soldiers dead,” said an officer.
The MNS had announced that it would not allow the release of all movies which starred Pakistani artists, putting producers like Karan Johar, in trouble as his latest movie features Fawad Khan.
After many negotiations, the MNS agreed for the release of the movie, provided the producers pay the donation to army and also sign an agreement stating no one from across the border will be hired in the Bollywood industry.
