Retired soldier kills himself by setting-off a homemade bomb in Japan
Monday, October 24th, 2016 12:35:55 by fatimaarshadAn anguished ex-soldier killed himself and hurt several people in a twin suicide blast which took place at a park in the Japanese city of Utsunomiya. The incident took place on Sunday when there was a festival underway at the park, drawing huge crowds to the area.
According to the details provided of the incident, the 72-year-old man was identified as Toshikatsu Kurihara, who was a former member of Japan’s Self-Defense Forces. Apparently he was going through financial crisis in his life and he ended his ordeal by taking his own life.
The twin blasts left three people injured as well. Amongst the injured were a 64 and 58-year old men and a 14-year-old junior high school student. The two older men were seriously injured while the teenager sustained minor injuries.
The police received a call at about noon on Sunday, about a person engulfed in flames after sound of blast rocked the park. After initial investigations, it was determined that Kurihara had committed suicide as a note was also found from his sock that he was wearing.
“I pay with my life,” the note reportedly said, expressing concerns about family issues.
Just after the blast, several cars, including Kurihara’s were found burning in a nearby parking lot and surprisingly, his home in the city, in which he used to live alone, was also found burnt to the ground.
Kurihara’s method of suicide was very unconventional as this was the first time in Japan, that someone used bomb blasts to kill themselves.
