Pakistani cinemas to resume screening of Indian movies

It seems that the ban on the screening of Indian movies was merely a suspension, as cinema owners and exhibitors will likely resume screening Bollywood movies from Tuesday.

According to the details provided, the cinema owners have agreed to lift the suspension since it was a voluntary move and there was no government intervention. The exhibitors had decided on their own to stop screening of Indian films since the time the Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPPA) had placed a ban on Pakistani artists and technicians working in India.

Since stopping the screening of Indian movies, the Pakistani cinema owners had suffered huge losses, as the viewership had decreased tremendously in cinemas across the country. Since placing the voluntary ban, cinema owners had gathered thrice to deliberate over the possible consequences of the ban.

According to the details provided by an anonymous source, the decision to resume the screening of Indian films comes in the wake of Indian Army’s criticism of MNS’ penalty of INR-50 million on Indian films featuring Pakistani actors.

Termed merely a ‘suspension’ and not a ban, since there was no government intervention, exhibitors had decided on their own to stop the screening of Indian films, following Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association (IMPPA) ban on Pakistani artists and technicians working in India earlier in October.

The decision to resume the screening of Indian films comes in the wake of Indian Army’s criticism of the MNS’ penalty of INR-50 million on Indian films featuring Pakistani actors.

“Indian Army’s statement is a good enough evidence for the change in perspective on the other side of the border. So is the release of Fawad Khan’s film in India,” said another cinema owner who attended the meeting.

The two new Bollywood movies which are expected to be released in Pakistani cinemas in the near future are; Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivay.
