The incident took place at 11:10 PM on Monday night, just as cadets had hit their beds and were ready to call it a day. Three heavily armed militants wearing suicide jackets entered the police academy and caused a rampage which continued for a few hours.
According to the details provided, the three terrorists entered the police academy after killing a guard at the gate and they ran to the sleeping quarters which houses around 700 recruits. After entering, they opened indiscriminate fire at the sleeping cadets, sending them into a terrifying frenzy.

A third terrorist was killed by the security forces and his suicide jacket remained intact.
Immediately after the attack was reported, Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and Special Services Group (SSG) commandoes were deployed to the training academy to root out the terrorists and save as many lives as possible.
Major General Sher Afgan, chief of the paramilitary FC in Balochistan, which led the counter-operation, said “the attack was over in around three hours after we arrived”.
“The operation needed to be conducted with precision therefore it took us four hours to clear the area completely.”
Afgan further told reporters that the terrorists were communicating to their handlers in Afghanistan and the communication intercepts showed that they belonged to Lashkar-e-Jhangvi’s Al-Alimi faction, which is affiliated with Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The injured cadets were immediately taken to the hospitals, where an emergency has been declared. Due to the condition of the injured, the number of casualties is expected to increase.
