Miss Iceland 2015 quits beauty pageant for being asked to ‘lose weight’
Wednesday, October 26th, 2016 4:17:58 by fatimaarshadThe entertainment industry has set quiet some stringent standards for beauty and one of them is that the models should be extremely thin.
During the recent Miss Grand International beauty pageant, one of the contestants dropped out after she was advised to lose weight. Despite being thin already, Miss Iceland 2015, Arna Yr Jónsdótti was communicated that she was too fat for the pageant and that she should lose weight.
The owner of the famed beauty pageant, Nawat Itsaragrisil, sent a message to Jónsdótti telling her to ‘stop eating breakfast, eat salad for lunch and drink water every evening until the contest’, according to a report by the Iceland Mirror.
The 20-year-old contestant was completely shocked over these instructions and she actually became so disheartened that she dropped out of the pageant.
Speaking to the Iceland Monitor Jónsdóttir said: “If the owner of the contest really wants me to lose weight and doesn’t like me the way I am, then he doesn’t deserve to have me in the top 10.”
Further, Jónsdóttir, announced that she’ll stop competing. “I no longer have any interest in doing my best in this competition after receiving that message,” she said. “This is definitely the last contest I shall be taking part in.”
Jónsdóttir was actually a strong contender in the competition. She was crowned Miss Iceland in September 2015 and was a gymnast for 10 years of her life.
The 2016 Miss Grand International beauty pageant will take place on October 25, in Las Vegas.
