Newly-wed Saudi groom divorces wife for using Snapchat
Wednesday, October 26th, 2016 4:19:54 by fatimaarshadSocial media became the cause for divorce of a newly-married couple, after the wife shared pictures of the wedding ceremony with friends on Snapchat. The incident took place in Saudi Arabia, where more than 50 percent of divorces occur between newly-weds.
According to the details of the incident provided, the husband divorced his wife just two hours after the wedding, because she shared pictures of their wedding on Snapchat, breaking their agreement.
Apparently, the husband and wife-to-be had signed an agreement before their marriage, in which they had agreed not to share pictures of their marriage on social media including, Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram.
“There was a prenuptial agreement between my sister and her fiancé that she would not use social media applications such as Snapchat, Instagram or Twitter to post or send her pictures,” the bride’s brother said.
“It was included in the marriage contract and became binding. Regretfully, my sister did not honour the pledge and used Snapchat to share pictures from the wedding ceremony with her female friends, resulting in the shocking decision by the groom to cancel their marriage and call for divorce,” he added.
The divorce resulted in a fight between the two families with the bride’s side arguing that it was an unfair agreement. However, the groom’s side maintained that this was something that had been agreed before and the groom was within his rights to divorce his wife.
These days social media is increasingly becoming the reason behind divorces for married couples as it interferes with their marital lives.
