Militants linked to Quetta police academy attack killed by security forces
Friday, October 28th, 2016 5:30:53 by fatimaarshadIn a recent raid conducted at a compound in Quetta, security forces claimed to have killed the militants who carried out the deadly attack at Quetta’s police academy.
The raid on the compound was conducted after the security forces received a tip that members of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LJ) militant group were hiding there. The raid took place on Thursday night and as a result, four terrorists were killed.
“A team of anti-terrorist force (ATF) raided the compound and killed four militants after an exchange of gunfire,” a senior local police official Abdullah Afridi told AFP.
The police official also revealed that the militants belonged to LJ-the same group which claimed that it had carried out the Monday attack on the Police Academy with assistance from Islamic State (IS) militant group. The attack on the police academy was the deadliest one of the year, in which 61 people were killed and more than 120 were injured.
IS had previously also claimed responsibility of the attack and it released the photos of the fighters who were involved. According to sources, one of the fighters bore close resemblance to an attacker who was killed during yesterday’s raid.
Thursday’s attack on the militant’s hideout brought some peace to the victims of the police academy attack. The Balochistan government has also formed a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) consisting of officials from the army, police and intelligence agencies to further probe the attack.
The team is still working on the evidence and will present a report to the government soon.
