Containers removed from motorway following the death of an Army officer
Monday, October 31st, 2016 1:40:33 by fatimaarshadContainers were placed on all entry points into the capital city, along the motorway to discourage the people from entering the city ahead of the November 2 PTI rally.
Due to the placement of these containers, an unfortunate incident took place in which an Army officer embraced martyrdom. Lt. Col Shahid was on his way to Nowshera from Rawalpindi with an Army convoy when they had to pull over on the motorway near Hazro due to the road blockade on Saturday night.
Lt. Col Shahid along with Major Jalal, got off their vehicles to have a look at the situation.
“At around 2000 hrs, routes were blocked with containers, both officers got down from vehicles and were on foot to find an alternative route for convoy. In the dark, both fell from the road edge into a deep ditch along the Motorway near Hazro,” stated a release by the ISPR.
Lt. Col Shahid died at the spot whereas Major Jalal got seriously injured.
Meanwhile the Interior Ministry decided to remove all the barricades from the roads linking Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the rest of the country.
According to a spokesman of the Interior Ministry, barricades were placed at certain places on motorway as a gang of around 900 armed men attempted to enter into the federal capital.
The spokesman said that an ambush took place at Attock Bridge between a group of armed men and local police. He further added that even the station house officer was tortured by the attackers.
The armed men dispersed once additional force was called out at the scene.
