CM KP’s caravan pushed back to Swabi interchange by police
Tuesday, November 1st, 2016 12:38:00 by fatimaarshadThe Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervaiz Khattak had to turn back his caravan which was on its way to Islamabad to attend the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf rally scheduled to take place on November 2.
The caravan was fully charged to break through all barriers and reach the capital, but heavy shelling by the police forced the crowd to push back and later, Khattak asked them to go back to Peshawar.
CM Pervaiz Khattak, along with his party workers, started out from Peshawar on Monday and reached the Burhan Interchange on late Monday night, where the crowd was met with obstruction. He then instructed his workers to stay there till morning.
Upon reaching the interchange, the crowd clashed with the police and there was much havoc created at the interchange. The situation died down after a while and party workers laid down to rest for the night. However, they were woken up by heavy shelling of tear gas from the police in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The intense tear-gas shelling prompted Pervaiz Khattak and his caravan to retreat to Peshawar from the Burhan interchange.
The PTI workers completely vacated the interchange after receiving orders from the CM and later, it was opened for routine traffic.
So far it is not clear how CM Khattak and PTI workers from KP will be joining their party leader in Islamabad, since all roads leading to the capital are blocked.
Law enforcement agencies have also blocked all passages leading to Bani Gala so that huge crowds cannot gather there in an attempt to lock down Islamabad.
Despite these hurdles, PTI chief Imran Khan is still calling out all his supporters to come out and lock down Islamabad as a form of protest.
