PTI to celebrate ‘Day of Thanks’ instead of capital lockdown
Tuesday, November 1st, 2016 6:48:16 by fatimaarshadFollowing the decision of the Supreme Court regarding the probe into Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s assets, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf chief, Imran Khan, has decided to hold a ‘Youm-e-Tashakur’ or ‘Day of Thanks’ on November 2.
Earlier, PTI was preparing to lockdown the capital city of Islamabad in protest of inaction of the judiciary in holding Nawaz Sharif accountable for the ‘Panama Leaks’ issue. Khan is demanding full accountability of the PM and wants his full disclosure regarding the assets mentioned in the Panama Papers.
The Supreme Court has summoned a reply from PM Nawaz Sharif on November 3, regarding his assets.
“I am glad the Supreme Court has directed the prime minister to present himself for accountability,” Khan said.
Immediately after the announcement was made, Khan addressed his party workers outside his house in Bani Gala and asked them to go home rest and reach Parade Ground tomorrow at 2 PM, where ‘Youm-e-Tashakur’ will be celebrated.
Khan thanked all his supporters for coming out at his call and he made special mention of Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattakm for his efforts.
Pervaiz Khattak, along with caravan left for Islamabad from Peshawar on Monday night but he was intercepted by the police at Burhan Interchange, where a show-down between PTI supporters and the police took place. Due to heaving tear-gas shelling, Khattak and his group had to retreat to Peshawar.
Following Khan’s announcement of calling-off the protest, the process of removing containers from motorway and Islamabad has begun.
