Boxer Amir Khan targeted by extortionist claiming to have his secret tape

Pakistani-British boxer Amir Khan was recently targeted in a failed blackmail attempt by an extortionist claiming to have the boxer’s video with a woman.

The extortionist, identified as Hamza Din, claimed that he had a sex-tape of the 29-year-old boxer with a woman in a hotel room in Newcastle. According to the details provided by the British newspaper Daily Mail, Din had emailed Khan’s management team and asked for money in return for not releasing the video.

Din claimed that the tape was ‘100 percent real’ and he threatened that if Khan or his management team did not respond, he would release the clip to the media. Din did not ask for a specific amount but he asked to give an amount which ‘matched the price’ of what he was threatening to do.

However, it was all a hoax and when the blackmail attempt failed, Din said that the footage did not exist and he was just trying to extort some money from the world-renowned boxer.

Prosecutors in the court told the judge that Din had created a fake email account using the name ‘Harry Dean’, but it turned out that he was a novice and the account was quickly traced to its original source. Din was arrested shortly after and he was recently handed a sentence by the Bolton Crown Court.

Din pleaded guilty to a single charge of blackmail and was sentenced to 16 months in prison and suspension for two years. It revealed in the court that Din suffered from bi-polar disorder.

Khan reacted very calmly to the situation and did not give in to the threats. In a statement read to the court, Khan said, “I do not want anyone else to be put in a position that me and my family have been put in.”
