According to the details of the incident provided by CNN journalist and political commentator, David Gregory, he was riding in a taxi whose driver was a Pakistani, when he got stopped over by a US traffic police officer and got yelled at on Friday.
According to Gregory, he was riding in the back of the taxi, when the driver mistakenly violated a traffic rule, and instead of getting a ticket or a citation, a US police officer made threatening remarks against him.
The journalist heard the officer yell this to the driver; “I will take everything away from you.” The veteran reporter said his driver told him later that the officer also said, “I will take your head off.”
Once Gregory reached home, he published the comments on his Twitter and said that he later received a call from the mayor’s officer and a top police official talked to him about this incident. “They were very concerned and wanted to express their regrets to the driver,” the Post quoted Gregory as saying.
The office of Mayor Muriel E Bowser even responded with an official statement regarding the incident which went as follows;
“The incident described on social media does not illustrate who we are as a city or how we carry ourselves when serving residents and members of the public.” The police and Bowser’s aides “have already made contact to understand what transpired and will review the matter,” the statement added. Police said they have spoken to the driver.
