Family visiting from America, robbed, molested by police in Islamabad
Tuesday, November 15th, 2016 12:50:15 by fatimaarshadA Pakistani family visiting from America had an extremely unpleasant experience in their homeland in the hands of police officers who were stationed at a checkpoint in Islamabad.
According to the details provided of the incident, the Pakistani-American family had returned to their homeland for a visit after 16 years. They were travelling from Bhara Kahu to Wah on November 13 when their rented car was stopped at a police checkpoint on Kashmir Chowk.
After being stopped on the pretext of a security check, the police officer asked the driver to show the documents of the car which he duly showed them. After checking the car documents, the officials started accusing the driver of carrying drugs and started searching the car.
A male member of the family and the driver were asked to step out of the car while another police officer searched the ladies’ handbags. The officer took $800 out of the bag.
An officer by the name of Rana Mudassir, took the male member and the driver to a picket and molested them by taking their trousers down and touching their private parts. The officer claimed that this was being done as part of the frisking procedure.
The two police officers then threatened the driver that they would take him to the police station and log a complaint against him. After that the officers returned $700 and kept $100 which they took out from the woman’s purse. The family was then allowed to leave.
When the family reached Wah, they narrated the incident to their relative who happened to know a journalist. They got the news out and lodged a complaint at the Secretariat Police Station, after which a search for the two police officers, identified as constables Mudassir and Wadood, is underway.
The police have booked the officers for illegal confinement, loot and extortion-however, they have not been charged for alleged molestation.
