Five arrested in Sialkot after horrific video of transgender being tortured went viral

At least five people have been arrested in Sialkot after a video of a man brutally beating a transgender went viral on social media. The public at large was appalled at the horrifying video which was shared thousands of times and now laws are being demanded for the protection of transgender community.
In the video of that horrific incident, the offender, identified as Jajja Butt, is seen holding down a transgender by his feet and beating her with a leather belt. At one point he is seen holding her down by her neck and twisting her arm. A transgender present at the scene told police officers that Jajja Butt and his gang members had come to demand extortion money and when the family refused to submit to their demand, they started torturing the victim.
Another video is also making rounds on the internet in which a transgender by the name of Julie is urging the government to end their sufferings by meting out justice to the culprits. “We were beaten up and gang raped all night,” she said in the video. “They hit us with shoes, spat on our faces and made us drink their urine,” she added while claiming that the torture continued for an entire night.
An FIR has been lodged against the perpetrators and 13 people were nominated in it. Out of those 13, five have been arrested, including Butt while five are being questioned.
The culprit however, had another side of the story. Butt claimed that the suspect was his lover and he had found out that she was involved with other men, after which he became enraged and beat her up.
Whatever the side of the story is true, the flogging video shows the sad reality of how our society treats transgender people and steps should be taken to address this problem.
