India bans Dr Zakir Naik’s NGO for claims of inciting terrorism
Wednesday, November 16th, 2016 1:54:58 by fatimaarshadThe Indian government has placed a five-year ban on Islamic scholar Dr. Zakir Naik’s NGO called International Research Foundation. The decision was recently taken at a cabinet meeting in New Delhi after the Bangladeshi government had asked India to look into the matter.
Militants killed more than 20 people in Bangladesh and a few of them were reportedly inspired by speeches delivered by Dr. Zakir Naik. After this revelation by the terrorists, Bangladeshi and Indian officials launched a probe against the speeches of Dr. Naik and it was decided that if any hate content was found in them, action will be taken against the scholar.
When Dr. Zakir Naik was told of the investigations being carried out, he said that he was shocked that he is being labeled as such, since he always prorogates peace. “I disagree that I inspired this act of killing innocent people” and declared “terrorism is Devil-ish,” Dr Naik said.
Naik told The Indian Express that he condemns the attack. “By using the name Islamic State, we are condemning Islam… They are the ‘anti-Islamic state of Iraq and Syria’ that has killed innocent foreigners. The name is given by enemies of Islam,” he said.
The Indian government not only accuses Dr. Naik for inciting hate speech and promoting terrorism, they also claim that through his speeches, the scholar conveys tacit support to the Islamic State.
Dr. Naik had made a controversial statement in 2010 when he refused to proclaim Osama Bin Laden as a terrorist.
