A mayor from West Virginia has stepped down from her post after she liked a racist Facebook post about First Lady Michelle Obama. The post was written by Clay County Development Corp. director Pamela Ramsey Taylor and it described the First Lady as an ‘ape in heels’.

According to the details provided of the incident, after Trump’s victory in the recent US Presidential elections, Pamela wrote the following post on her Facebook page; “It will be refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a Ape in heels.”

To this post, the West Virginia Mayor Beverly Whaling responded by saying; ‘Just made my day Pam.’

Immediately after these comments, there was a media fury over their insensitivity and the comments were later deleted from both the women’s accounts. After a short while, both their pages were also taken offline, and since then they have not been restored.

The provocative comments drew huge fire from people across the country and an online petition was started on www.thepetitionsite.com to oust both the women from their position. The petition gathered over 160,000 signatures from across the country.

After applauding Pamela’s provocative comment, she could no longer hold her office and was asked to be stepped down.

On Monday Whaling also apologized for her actions through a statement saying; “My comment was not intended to be racist at all.”

Barack Obama is America’s first African American president and him and his family have been targeted in racial slurs time and again.
