Hyderabad man holds own family hostage for 40 hours
Monday, November 21st, 2016 1:11:38 by fatimaarshadA former doctor and father of two, held his own family hostage for more than 40 hours in a bid to avoid being arrested for shooting an unsuspecting victim. A huge drama unfolded in an otherwise quiet town of Hyderabad on Friday as Dr. Ibrahim Almani first fired a neighbor and then held his two children and mother hostage for 40 hours.
The drama began on Friday at 12:30 am and ended on Saturday after the police forced entry into Almani’s apartment and eventually arrested him.
Almani was living on the first floor apartment of Sana Center, a residential four-storey building in Qasimabad. On late Thursday night, a few boys from the same building were standing on the balcony talking to each other when Almani suddenly opened fire on one of them. The bullet missed the victims initially but it touched passed one of the boys Hasnain Solangi, leaving him injured.
Almani then locked himself inside his apartment and even resorted to aerial firing from inside his gate.
“I am not mentally sick but the unending injustices [in life] have made me react this way,” bemoaned Almani, while talking to the media on Saturday, standing ensconced behind the iron grills of his flat’s main door. “I will negotiate only with the Russian ambassador,” he shouted when prompted by the media and Ayaz Palijo, Qaumi Awami Tehreek’s leader, to share his terms for releasing his family and his surrender.
Almani had claimed that his family members had taken over his family property and were illegally occupying it. He claimed that he had forwarded the matter to the concerned authorities but they never helped him prompting him to take such drastic steps.
After the police failed to negotiate with him, they broke into his house and took him into custody. Almani is now being charged with ‘intent to kill’ for shooting his neighbor. He will also undergo psyche evaluation for his mental condition.
