Islamabad veterinarian sued for Rs. 24 m over cat’s death
Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016 5:12:55 by fatimaarshadA veterinarian from Islamabad has been sued by a cat owner for negligence which eventually led to the cat’s death.
According to the details provided of the incident, Sundas Hoorain took her two-month-old car for a routine check-up to Dr. Faisal Khan’s clinic located in F-7. “My cat was admitted to the hospital and I was asked to return the following day,” Hoorain said.
On the next day, when Hoorain picked her cat from the clinic and came back home, it fell sick after which her owner became very concerned. Hoorain immediately took her cat to another clinic, where it died.
“Dr Rana told me my cat had been kept at a lower temperature, not suitable for mammals. This is why my cat died,” she added.
Hoorain was so upset that she asked Dr. Rana’s Pet Care Center to prepare a post-mortem report. The report revealed that the cat had died because it was exposed to extreme cold, dehydration and starvation. The report was later submitted in court.
The complainant accused Dr. Faisal and one of his staff members of negligence and asked for Rs. 25 million in compensation. She also demanded that all accused should also serve jail time for their negligence.
In addition, Hoorain made a plea to the veterinary council to install CCTV camera in all clinics so that the treatment to animals can be monitored and no animal ever dies due to mistreatment.
The accused have been asked to submit a reply to the court by Dec 5, failing which the court can issue its own verdict on the case.
