Saturday, December 10th, 2016 8:42:37 by fatimaarshadThe process of identification of the PK-661 crash victims is still underway as their dear ones wait for their bodies for burial. According to the latest details provided, DNA samples have been collected from the relatives of all the Pakistani victims whereas the samples of three foreigners are still awaited.
The ill-fated flight PK-661 which was coming from Chitral to Islamabad crashed near Abbottabad killing all the 47 passengers on-board. Out of these 47 people, 42 were passengers whereas five were crew members. The passengers also included nine women, two infants and three foreigners.
The bodies of the victims were first brought to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) and they were later shifted to a cold storage near Rawat. Relatives of the victims were asked to come to Pims to give their DNA samples which would eventually help in identifying the crash victims.
So far eight bodies have been identified and handed over to their relatives.
Blood samples of close relatives of the remaining 36 passengers have been collected and sent to labs in Islamabad to match them with the bodies. It has been learnt that the results will take over a week to complete, only after which the bodies will be handed over to the relatives.
“Some of the relatives of the deceased wanted to leave the city so we have advised them to give authority letters to those who would be collecting the bodies,” said Dr. Hussain who is working on the case.
The three foreigners who died in the plane crash were from Austria, China and South Korea. Since samples for these foreigners have still not been received, the hospital is waiting for directions regarding what to do.
