Did Russia really help Donald Trump become the US President?
Saturday, December 10th, 2016 1:29:54 by fatimaarshadA Central Investigation Agency (CIA) report is making rounds these days which claims that Russia intervened in the 2016 US Presidential elections to help President-elect Donald Trump get to the Oval Office. The report claims that this was done not only to undermine the confidence in the US electoral system, but also for Russia’s personal gains.
This revelation came in a Washington Post report on Friday but so far it is not clear whether anything will be done about it. Citing certain US officials who were briefed on the matter, the Post said that intelligence agencies had identified individuals with connections to the Russian government who provided thousands of hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and others, including the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, to WikiLeaks.
The report further continued stating that these individuals are people who are known to the intelligence community who were part of a bigger Russian operation to boost Trump and reduce Clinton’s chances of winning the elections. In the end, their efforts paid off as Trump won by causing a major upset in the election results.
“It is the assessment of the intelligence community that Russia’s goal here was to favour one candidate over the other, to help Trump get elected,” the Post quoted a senior US official as saying, “That’s the consensus view.”
While the election campaigning was still going on, the leaked email issue surfaced which tainted Hillary Clinton’s reputation and reduced her chances of winning. At that time President Barack Obama warned Russian President Vladimir Putin about the consequences of interfering with American politics. However, the Russians have always denied having any part to play in it.
