Junaid Jamshed finally laid to rest; Thousands attend his funeral

Pakistan’s famous singer-turned-religious preacher, Junaid Jamshed was laid to rest in Karachi on Thursday. Thousands of people attended Jamshed’s funeral prayers which took place at Karachi’s AKD ground on Thursday morning.

Jamshed was killed in the PK-661 plane which crashed near Havelian while it was on its way to Islamabad from Chitral. His wife, Nayha Jamshed was also killed in the same plane.

According to the details provided, Jamshed was buried at Jamia Darul Uloom Karachi in Korangi Industrial Area. His funeral prayers were led by renowned religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel, who also happened to be a mentor and a close friend of the deceased.

For the funeral prayers, a huge ground was prepared at DHA Phase-VIII as it was expected that a huge crowd would turn up for the burial. Tight security arrangements were made for the occasion as senior armed forces personnel, politicians, celebrities and sportsmen attended the funeral.

Jamshed’s body was brought to Karachi from Islamabad in a C-130 plane. A day before, funeral prayers for the late preacher were also held at Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi.

Jamshed’s body was identified with the help of dental and facial x-rays. After the identification, his remains were handed over to his brother, Humanyan Jamshed on Monday.

Earlier, Nayha Jamshed’s body was sent to Lahore from Islamabad after it had been identified. She was laid to rest in Cavalry ground’s grave yard.
