SSP Rao Anwar cleared from all charges
Thursday, December 22nd, 2016 1:40:27 by fatimaarshadSenior Superintendent of Police, Rao Anwar, has been given a clean chit after being suspended for arresting Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan, among other charges.
Investigation was completed after which Anwar’s clearance from the charges was announced on Thursday. A report of the investigation and its findings will be presented to Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, after which Anwar will be allowed to resume his work.
The investigative team was headed by DIG Dr. Jamil Ahmed, which looked into all the charges against the former SSP Malir. The charges against Anwar included; land grabbing, mistreatment of subordinates, supervision of illegal sand business, leaking of report to a newspaper about the raid on Khawaja Izhar’s residence and holding of press conferences despite being banned from doing so.
The investigation was ordered by CM Sindh Murad Ali Shah earlier this month and the team was working on it since then. In November, Sindh Government had reinstated SSP Anwar but he was not deputed anywhere.
Police had arrested Khawaja Izhar Hassan from his house in Karachi’s Buffer Zone area in September. The MQM chief was handcuffed and taken away by the then SSP Malir Rao Anwar in an armoured vehicle. Television footage also showed MQM Pakistan chairman, Farooq Sattar, trying to shove away policemen who were taking Hassan away.
After the arrest, Anwar went against the protocol and held a press conference, further infuriating MQM workers. After this move, Anwar was suspended by CM Sindh who said that the officer’s method was wrong.
