Report claims Snowden still has contact with Russian intelligence

A recently declassified US House of Representatives Intelligence Committee report claims that former National Security Agency (NSA) contractor Edward Snowden ‘has had and continues to have contact’ with Russian Intelligence services.

According to this report the Pentagon found 13 undisclosed ‘high risk’ security issues created by Snowden’s release to media outlets of tens of thousands of the US intelligence agency’s most sensitive documents. The report also highlighted that if American enemies like China or Russia got their hands on eight of the 13 issues, “American troops will be at greater risk in any future conflict.”

Meanwhile, Snowden, who is currently living in Moscow under an asylum deal, criticized this report on Twitter and said that it was ‘rifled with obvious falsehoods’. He also claimed that it presented no evidence that his disclosures were made ‘with harmful intent, foreign influence or harm. Wow”

In a largely redacted section entitled “Foreign Influence,” the House report said that “since Snowden’s arrival in Moscow, he has had, and continues to have, contact with Russian intelligence services.” It called Snowden’s leaks “the largest and most damaging public release” of top-secret materials in US intelligence history.

The 37-page report was released at a tense time in Washington over US government charges of Russia hacking of the US presidential election. In the report it was also highlighted that the NSA and Intelligence Community (IC) have not taken enough steps to ensure that such a disastrous security leak does not take place in the future.

Snowden leaked classified information in 2013 which showed how much the US spy agencies had infiltrated into the lives of the common citizen and were recording their information.
