Monday, December 26th, 2016 10:20:12 by fatimaarshadBritish pop singer George Michael has passed away at the age of 53, as confirmed by his publicist. Michael rose to fame in the 80s with the band Wham! And later he progressed to have his solo career.
“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period,” the publicist said in a statement.
“The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time.”
It was reported by Thames Valley Police that an ambulance service had attended a property in Goring in Oxfordshire, where the singer reportedly lived, at 13:42 GMT on Sunday and a 53-year-old man was confirmed dead at the scene.
“At this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious. A post-mortem will be undertaken in due course,” the police said.
Michael had been off the radar for the past several years but it was being reported that lately he was working on a documentary based on his life. This particular documentary was set to be released in 2017. During his time as a recluse, Michael made headlines for a series of bizarre incidents related to drug abuse.
It was also reported earlier this month that producer and songwriter Naughty Boy, whose real name is Shahid Khan, was also working with Michael on a new album due to be released next year.
All the artists and fans from around the world reacted to Michael’s sudden death and sent in their condolences to the family.
Singer Elton John published a picture of himself with Michael on his Instagram account.
