According to the details provided, a Tu-154 plane crashed in the Black Sea on Sunday at 5:27 am (GMT), just two minutes after it had taken-off. The plane took off from the southern city of Adler, where it had been refueling. The plane was headed to western Syria, carrying government personnel and members of the Red Army Choir, who were going there to celebrate the New Year with troops.
“Fragments of the Tu-154 plane of the Russian defence ministry were found 1.5 kilometres from the Black Sea coast of the city of Sochi at a depth of 50 to 70 metres,” the defense ministry said.
The ministry also revealed that there were no signs of any survivors and that already 10 bodies had been recovered off the coast of the resort city of Sochi, after authorities launched a search operation for any survivors.
According to the details provided so far, the plane disappeared from the radar after just two minutes of taking-off. So far a cause for the crash is still not known and a search for the plane’s black-box is still underway.
Russian officials also ruled out any probability of terrorism and said that the probable cause of the crash might be a technical glitch or fault of the crew.
President Vladimir Putin has ordered Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to head a government commission to investigate the crash and come up with a cause.
