Britney Spears’ death false news reported from Sony Music Entertainment’s official account

For a moment yesterday, Britney Spear’s fans had a terrible time coming to terms with the fact that their idol was dead! A tweet from Sony Music Entertainment’s official Twitter account said “RIP @britneyspears #RIPBritney 1981-2016” and “Britney spears is dead by accident! We will tell you more soon #RIPBritney.”

However, the real Sony Music Entertainment quickly deleted those tweets and later issued a clarification. “Sony Music Entertainment’s Twitter account was compromised. This has been rectified,” it said. “Sony Music apologises to Britney Spears and her fans for any confusion.”

After the confusion, a lot of people reached out to Spears’ manager who clarified that the singer is alive and doing well. Adam Leber told CNN that “Britney is fine and well.”

Just on Sunday, Spears had posted pictures of her children in camouflage gear during an outdoor trip.

“There have been a few Internet clowns over the years who have made similar claims about her death,” Leber said, “but never from the official Sony Music Twitter account.”

In fact, the reason it all sounded so legit was the fact that Sony had posted this tweet so initially no one questioned its authenticity.

When Sony’s account was hacked, artist Bob Dylan’s account was also compromised as it tweeted; “Rest in peace @britneyspears” about the same time as the fake Sony tweets were going out.

It is being speculated that the hacker group OurMine was behind these hacks as one tweet from Dylan’s account included the OurMine hashtag.

OurMine has hacked accounts of other celebrities in the past as well and after exposing a threat, the group then offers to provide its own security services to prevent future attacks.
